Stay kind to our planet
At TheaterHotel De Oranjerie, sustainability is central to everything we do. We believe it is important to not only offer our guests a pleasant stay but also to take good care of our planet. Therefore, we act in a conscious and responsible manner, with respect for people, the environment, and society.
Our commitment to sustainability is underscored by the Golden Green Key certification and BREEAM Excellent certification. These certifications show that we are constantly working to reduce our impact on the environment and improve our operations.
You can make a difference
Our guests also play an important role in this. For example, by choosing to skip daily room cleaning and reusing towels in the bathroom, you contribute to saving water, energy, and cleaning products. In addition, the transport of laundry is limited, which results in lower CO₂ emissions. Together, we make a small difference with a big impact on our planet.
Sustainable building and renovation
Between 2022 and 2025, TheaterHotel De Oranjerie was completely renovated. During this renovation, sustainability was our starting point. The BREEAM certification was used to assess the extent to which our buildings meet strict environmental requirements. This approach has resulted in a BREEAM Excellent certification, recognition for our high sustainability ambitions. BREEAM encourages the use of innovative solutions and helps us create buildings with the smallest possible ecological footprint.
Concrete sustainable choices
To further enhance the sustainability of our organization, we have opted for:
Solar panels for sustainable energy production
Water-saving toilets and showers
Heat pumps for heating and cooling
LED lighting in all buildings
Nest boxes for swifts and bats
These measures result in lower energy consumption and contribute to nature conservation.
Sustainable fish and seasonal choices
Worldwide, fish consumption is increasing, with disastrous consequences for fish populations. At Cerise Restaurant, we work exclusively with fish from sustainable sources. Seasonal fishing and consumption are essential to maintain and restore fish populations worldwide. By working with Stichting Vis&Seizoen, we contribute to the protection and restoration of fish populations.
Stichting Vis&Seizoen promotes sustainable fish consumption by promoting fishing in the right season only. The greater the awareness, the greater the chance of recovery and preservation of various fish species.
Even fish with a certification is not always responsible to eat. During the breeding season, we leave the fish alone. Therefore, we work with a carefully composed assortment that meets strict sustainability requirements and is approved by recognized organizations.
Stichting Vis&Seizoen has compiled a 100% Vis&Seizoen assortment based on strict criteria: the right season, sustainable fishing techniques, a healthy population, and high quality. This assortment consists of MSC or ASC certified fish, or fish approved by the Good Fish Foundation.
Green Key: responsible entrepreneurship
With the Golden Green Key certification, we demonstrate that sustainability is an integral part of our operations. This applies not only to our energy and water consumption but also to the choice of suppliers, products, and services.
Green Key is an internationally recognized certification for sustainable companies in the hotel and recreation sector and shows that we go beyond legal obligations. To maintain this certification, we continue to challenge ourselves to work more sustainably.
